Exercise 5: Using E-mail Client

The PostCast E-mail Client is a complete software for sending and receiving e-mail messages. It supports all the current standards and advanced options. It is completely integrated into a program and it collaborates efficiently with other PostCast options. This means that you would be able to create, for instance, a contact table using the Database tool, prepare messages to be sent using the E-mail Merge tool and send all messages as final products directly using the E-mail Client i.e. from its Outbox mail folder.

Using E-mail Client is very simple. The program possesses many advanced options; this time, however, we shall review only the fundamental ones.

1. First it is necessary to set PostCast up. If you have followed the previous Exercises you already must have entered the essential data for the proper functioning of the E-mail Client. Click the Settings button from the toolbar. Select the 'E-mail' tab, and your screen should look like this:

Enter all the necessary data. The settings are standard, and you may copy the data from another E-mail program with which you are familiar i.e. if you are not sure what to enter. Having finished the setup, save the project (use the 'File/Save Project' option from the menu) in order to be able to use the input data even after restarting the program.

2. Let us prepare a test message. Proceed to the 'E-mail Client' window. Click the 'New Message' button from the toolbar. A brand new and unrelated window will appear, wherein you should type your message. Enter your e-mail address in the To text box, choose a subject and write anything in the message body. Make sure that you enter your exact e-mail address in the To text box as you had entered it in the 'Settings' program window.

3. Click the 'Send' button from the toolbar and wait a minute for it to reach its destination. Return to the E-mail Client window and click the 'Send and Receive' toolbar button to receive the sent message. Wait for the program to terminate the receipt.

4. If the 'Inbox' folder is not selected, select it in such a way as to pick it from the combo box, in front of which 'Change Folder' is written.

If everything had gone according to plans now you have the opportunity to see the message you have sent in your Inbox folder. Select it using the left mouse key in order to read its contents. If you wish to erase it or perform some other operation on the message, use the right mouse key to click the message, and a menu will open up. The selected message can be opened, erased, forwarded, moved to another mail folder, as well as be used to perform several other useful applications.

You may double click any message and open it in a new window. Therein you may read all messages from the folder using the up and down keys, as well as perform numerous other useful operations.
